Disorganized

So here’s what happens.

I have very limited free time.  By the time I get settled, open up my computer, pick a sound file I want to work with, something interrupts me.  I mean, seriously, by the time I figure out where to find my blog draft so I can edit it, I’ve got to go do something else more pressing.  There was a good blog I thought I “followed” which had an excellent example of a language schedule.  Now I can’t find it again.  Should I spend the next twenty minutes looking for it, wasting what is probably the only free time I’ll have today, or should I just hope to stumble on it again one day?

Who has the time for this?

I’m reading Benny Lewis’ Language Hacking Guide, and I want to set mini-goals.  One of his suggestions is to start a blog.  Check!  But he says that it’s because one will feel “publicly” pressured to meet those goals.  No one reads this blog.  I have no pressure except the knowledge that I will probably gain very little by being so disorganized.  Benny Lewis does not have any children.  Yes, I know, an excuse, say you.  My little one is going to learn these languages with me!  <say I!>

For some silly reason, I am really keen on this micro-cassette idea.  I guess because I benefited from it with

Danish.  It helps with pronunciation.  One of the languages I really want to learn is Finnish.  It’s right next door, and there are a lot of Finnish speakers here.  I don’t want to be fluent, but I would like to have a good basic pronunciation and a passive base.  I made a good cassette tape last night using the TeachYourself audio, but didn’t have a chance to write down what they were actually saying.  I can’t sit at my computer and practice. One of the benefits of a micro-cassette recorder is that it’s portable.  But it’s pretty useless when you can’t understand what’s being said.  See how I’m wasting my time now?  I could have been creating a notebook.

Lucky me, I eventually found that blog which has good mini-goals — something for me to emulate.  I will try to post something a bit more organized next time.  You know, in order to appease my invisible base of readers.
